After a rocky start to his NFL career with the New England Patriots, the storied franchise finally moved on from quarterback Mac Jones on Sunday, as the team traded him to the Jacksonville Jaguars to back-up Trevor Lawrence.

With the Patriots starting from scratch after parting ways with legendary head coach Bill Belichick, the team parting ways with Jones was a move that was expected to be made during this NFL offseason, as he clearly wasn’t the best option under center.

Unfortunately for Jones, he won’t get another opportunity to start at quarterback right away after being moved, as Lawrence is expected to be the long-term starter for Jacksonville because he’s one of the most talented young players at the position in the league right now.

However, Jones is a decent backup option for the Jaguars if Lawrence goes down next season, which has drawn a comparison to a Super Bowl-winning quarterback from ESPN’s Ryan Clark, who thinks Doug Pederson found a new Nick Foles.

Doug Pederaon went out and found him a “Nick Foles” huh? Interesting. I like this move by Jacksonville.

It is a bit of a stretch to compare Jones to Foles at this point, considering how much the former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback was able to accomplish after he took over for Carson Wentz, but it is still a solid move for the Jaguars moving forward.

It’s safe to say that Jones has needed a change of scenery for the last couple of years, as he simply wasn’t a good fit in New England, especially with the coaching staff for the Patriots being a mess the past few seasons.
