Ryan Clark Has Harsh Criticism For 49ers Over Trey Lance

Back in 2021, the San Francisco 49ers traded the No. 12 pick, two additional future first-round picks, and a third-round pick to the Miami Dolphins in return for the No. 3 pick.

They used that pick to get rising prospect Trey Lance, who had excelled in his lone season as a starter at North Dakota State University.

Multiple teams were keeping tabs on Lance and wanted him, so John Lynch had to be extra aggressive to get him, especially considering that QB Jimmy Garoppolo was coming off a serious injury.

Fast forward to today, and it seems like Lance will never find his footing, at least in San Francisco.

That’s why former NFL player Ryan Clark wants people to hold the 49ers accountable for doing what he called the worst trade-up draft pick in NFL history (via Get Up).

The Niners haven’t won a Super Bowl in quite a while, and while Lynch has done an outstanding job of putting a competitive roster together, they’ve had their fair share of bad calls as well.

Lance has been in the league for three years, and he’s lost his starting job three times already.

Now, he’s not even set to be QB2, and it seems like he’d be better off somewhere else.

He’s still 23 years old, but he looks a ways away from being ready, if ever.

The Niners dropped the ball and managed their assets poorly, and they should be held accountable for that.

But everybody in the league was high on Lance, so any other franchise would’ve made that mistake.
