Regardless of who’s under center, the Pittsburgh Steelers always seem to find a way to go .500 or better if Mike Tomlin is calling the shots.
But what if they’re more than just a well-coached team with an elite defense?
What if their offense becomes good again for the first time in years?
That’s what former NFL player Ryan Clark believes will be the case this season, as the Steelers have shown plenty of confidence in Kenny Pickett, who looks much improved as he enters his second season in the league.
Clark took to ESPN’s Get Up to call the Steelers the dark horse candidate to make the playoffs in the AFC, and plenty of that will have to do with Pickett’s notorious improvement.
Pickett closed out the season on a high note, and he has already shown an ability to put up big numbers when he was playing in college.
The Steelers always made it clear that they didn’t think of him as a stopgap or took him because he knew the field; they actually believed he could carry Ben Roethlisberger’s torch and become their next franchise player.
We already know what that defense is capable of, especially when T.J. Watt stays healthy and on the field, and Tomlin is one of the best coaches in the game.
The AFC North is perhaps the most competitive and stacked division in all of football, but even so, the Steelers have a legit shot at making some noise and sneaking into the playoffs.
