New Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton is looking to move the franchise forward after a disastrous 2022 season in which it went from Super Bowl contenders to a total disaster.
At least that’s the way Payton sees it, according to some poignant comments he made regarding what happened in Denver last season.
The former New Orleans Saints coach accused the Broncos of being more concerned with winning the offseason and their media image than with what actually happened on the field.
He then said that the New York Jets, who traded for Aaron Rodgers this offseason, are heading down the same path.
Former NFL safety Ryan Clark criticized Payton for his comments on the Jets and even implied that he’s acting like an “immature petty little child,” via NFL on ESPN.

In the 2022 offseason, Denver landed future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Russell Wilson, who had spent all of his first 10 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and led them to a Super Bowl championship.
It was expected that he would give Denver a shot at a Vince Lombardi Trophy, but their season instead devolved into total offensive ineptitude and a litany of miscues and unforced errors.
The Broncos aren’t the most talented team in the AFC or even in their own division, but Payton wants them to focus on making the playoffs and think of themselves as a playoff team.
He also seems to think very highly of Wilson, who had his worst season ever in 2022, and he denies the notion that the 34-year-old is washed up.
