To some, the Chicago Bears have an easy decision on their hands.
They’ll have the No. 1 pick for the second consecutive season, and it has been a while since the best prospect in it’s class has been so far ahead of the rest of the pack.
USC star Caleb Williams looks like a can’t-miss kind of talent, at least from a football perspective, and the Bears could definitely use some certainty.
Nevertheless, there’s never a certain thing when it comes to evaluating talent or the NFL Draft, and this isn’t the exception to that rule.
With that in mind, a report by The Athletic pointed out some interesting words by Bears GM Ryan Poles about whoever they pick in the draft.
He talked about having a lot of confidence in his staff’s ability to evaluate a quarterback from a football standpoint, but they need to do a good job of assessing the person as well.
“I’ve got a lot of confidence in our ability to see talent on the field. The human being we’ve got to figure out,” Poles said. “Especially being a quarterback in this city, you’ve got to have it right. You’ve got to have toughness, you’ve got to have mental toughness, you’ve got to be able to block things out. So really, I’ve got to find out about the human beings.”
Ryan Poles has to simply get this right.

Truth be told, it would take a disaster or a major turn of events for any team to not take Williams at the No. 1 spot; that just doesn’t seem likely at this point.
Then again, some have questioned his toughness because of his struggles against winning teams in college, and the rumors of him wanting an ownership stake in whichever team drafted him were laughable to most executives.
Some also wonder whether Williams will be wired to play for such an organization, not to mention the fact that whoever plays QB for the Bears will need to excel in the blistering cold.
Whatever the case, the Bears simply cannot afford to miss this time, and they shouldn’t overthink this.
