Taysom Hill is one of the NFL’s most versatile players who can do virtually anything on the offensive side of the football as a quarterback or a tight end, which the New Orleans Saints typically take full advantage of throughout the season.

Unfortunately for Hill, the team hasn’t used him as much as they did last season, with the 33-year-old racking up a total of 582 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns.

In the loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night, Hill didn’t play much of a role in the team’s plan to take down Sean McVay’s squad, as he recorded two carries for two yards in what turned out to be an eight-point loss on the road at SoFi Stadium.

In the aftermath of the team’s eighth loss of the season, which officially drops the Saints below .500 at 7-8, head coach Dennis Allen talked about why Hill wasn’t used as much against the Rams.

Dennis Allen (on less Taysom Hill usage): “Some of it is based on the game plan. Last week was more health related.”

He said that wasn’t the case this week.

With Hill being a versatile weapon that the majority of the teams in the league don’t have the luxury of using on a weekly basis, it seems like a missed opportunity for Allen and company, as this was a winnable game on the road and a crucial one at that with playoff implications on the line.

Along with the Saints jeopardizing their playoff status, Allen may very well be coaching for his job the rest of the way during the 2023 regular season, which means this choice not to use Hill in a crucial game may prove costly to his future in New Orleans.
