During the 2023 NFL season, the New Orleans Saints showed some promise with veteran quarterback Derek Carr taking over under center and the team determined to make the playoffs with hopes of winning the NFC South.
Unfortunately, the Saints likely didn’t expect the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to recover so quickly from losing Tom Brady to retirement, as they were able to remain competitive with veteran Baker Mayfield leading the way, which ultimately resulted in them winning the division instead.
The Saints came up just short of making the playoffs, which was likely a tough pill to swallow given the changes that were thought to result in a postseason spot being clinched during the 2023 campaign.
Heading into the 2024 NFL season, the Saints will face even tougher competition in their division, with the Atlanta Falcons potentially emerging as a force to be reckoned with now that Kirk Cousins is under center and the team making other aggressive moves to get back on track in the NFC.
With the Buccaneers and Falcons expected to make more noise in 2024, the Saints can’t miss a beat, which makes their latest move surprising, as they let go of running back/kick returner Kene Nwangwu after a failed physical, according to Katherine Terrell of ESPN.
The Saints waived KR Kene Nwangwu with a failed physical designation. That’s a surprise.

Nwangwu spent the first three seasons of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings before landing with the Saints, who now have placed him on waivers.
New Orleans will try to bounce back while taking another run at making the playoffs, but how things pan out for Carr and company remains to be seen.
