Three or four years ago, NFL scouts raved about Spencer Rattler.
He looked poised to be the next big thing in college and, eventually, in the pros.
Things didn’t work out the way most people thought for him, and his draft stock took a serious hit throughout the course of the years.
Then again, not even the most pessimistic person thought he would slip all the way to the No. .150 selection and the fifth round, especially considering the fact that multiple QB-needy teams had several chances to get him.
Now, he’s expected to be Derek Carr’s backup, but according to some reports, it wouldn’t be all that shocking to see him take the field at some point in the season.
Per NFL Rookie Watch, the South Carolina product has turned a lot of heads during training camp.

Rattler has reportedly been “lighting it up” at Saints minicamp.
Some people around the league reportedly believe Rattler could see some playing time this season.

He’s reportedly slinging the football all over the field, and he’s starting to look like the potential steal of the draft.
Carr is a very good quarterback, but he’s not a superstar by any means, and he left plenty to be desired in his first season as the Saints’ signal-caller.
The Saints have more than enough to compete for their divisional pennant, even if they’re not a Super Bowl-caliber team.
So, another slow start to the season by the former Las Vegas Raider could put plenty of pressure on his shoulders, and the talent is most definitely there for Rattler, who still has a chance to prove the doubters wrong.
