The San Francisco 49ers have struggled to get their quarterback situation under control.

And even though Brock Purdy looked quite solid in his first half of the season on the field, some still have doubts about his ability to lead the offense.

They did add some depth and veteran competition by adding Sam Darnold.

When asked about his decision to join the Niners and — most likely — be QB2 or QB3, the former New York Jets and Carolina Panthers quarterback confessed to being impressed by the many weapons they have on the offensive side of the field:

“Guys are open, I mean, there’s a lot of guys open on dang near every play,” Darnold said on the Pardon My Take podcast, via NFL.com. “It just seems like there’s a ton of answers. Great run game. I mean, whenever you can have a great run game as a quarterback, that’s always a comforting feeling. I think just with the certain weapons that they have, you know, Deebo (Samuel), (Brandon) Aiyuk, George (Kittle), obviously Christian (McCaffrey), Juice (Kyle Juszczyk), Jauan Jennings, like there’s so many guys you can go on and on.”

Moreover, Darnold also talked about Kyle Shanahan and the great job he’s done.

Darnold has no clue as to whether he’ll play or not, but that’s nothing new to him.

He made the most of his opportunities with the Panthers and eventually took over the starting job, piling up 1,143 passing yards with seven scores against three picks in six appearances.

His team went 4-2 with him behind center, proving that it might still be too soon to give up on him, a former No. 3 pick.

That might be the case again in the Bay area, considering Purdy is coming off a major elbow injury and he may not be able to find the same kind of success he found when he burst out last season.

Trey Lance, on the other hand, has been less than impressive in the time he’s been in the league, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see Darnold taking the field in San Francisco at some point in the future.
