One of the more intriguing contract situations to watch in the NFL this offseason was that of Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley.
The former Giant, now Eagle, signed a three-year contract worth over $37 million with Philly after failing to agree to terms on a free-agent contract with Big Blue.
The Giants, who have been covered up close on the offseason edition of Hard Knocks, were able to show off their side of the contract talks with Barkey.
But in a recent interview with The Athletic, Barkley gave his side of the story.
“I never in my heart truly believed that they were going to match (Barkley’s contract offer from the Eagles) or they only wanted me for a lower price…No matter what, I probably wasn’t going to go back,” Barkley told NFL insider Dianna Russini.

As things stand right now, Barkley appears to be the big winner because of the contract that he got and the team that he went to.
The three-time 1,000-yard rusher is now on an Eagles team that has won a total of 36 games (including playoffs) over the last three seasons.
On paper with the likes of quarterback Jalen Hurts and 1,000-yard receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, the Eagles are one of the top teams in the NFC and have the chance to contend for a Super Bowl in 2024.
Meanwhile, the Giants, who have just one winning record in the last seven seasons, lost their best overall player and are looking at another tough season.
