Saquon Barkley Sounds Off On His Contract Situation

The New York Giants mistreated Saquon Barkley and paid the wrong guy.

They could’ve — and should’ve — used the franchise tag on Daniel Jones and secured a contract extension with their actual best player, and that led to some unnecessary offseason drama.

Barkley was close to holding out before eventually deciding to play on a one-year deal.

And while the Giants may have felt like they did the right thing because Barkley got hurt early in the season, Jones will be out until mid-2024 at the very least.

With that in mind, Barkley didn’t mince his words about his discontent and contract situation with the Giants, stating that he’s sick and tired of talking about it, and putting the team and the rest of the league on blast for how little loyalty means to them (via PIX11 Sports).

Barkley also complained about how poorly running backs are treated when it comes to securing contract extensions, which is a worrisome ongoing trend for the position.

To be fair, it’s not like running backs are playing for charity; they’re literally making millions of dollars to play football.

Then again, they’ve been treated as disposable assets and don’t get half of the money as other players despite putting their bodies through a bigger physical burden.

Barkley’s history of injuries will always set him back in contract negotiations; that’s just a fact.

But other elite veteran running backs should get more consideration in the market, and the business has been brutal to them.
