Patrick Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs to their third Super Bowl win in the past five years.
He got off to a slow start to the game, with his team struggling to move the chains and put up points on the scoreboard.
Then, he was lights out in the second half in overtime to secure the third Super Bowl MVP award of his career.
Nonetheless, New York Jets star CB Sauce Gardner respectfully disagreed with that.
Recently, he took to Twitter to claim that he thought that Trent McDuffie should’ve gone home with the distinction.
This might be a hot take, but I think Trent McDuffie should’ve been the Superbowl
MVP. I could be bias because he’s a DB, but that’s my opinion.

And while he added that he’s biased because he’s a fellow defensive back, McDuffie was special.
That’s not that hot of a take.
McDuffie was elite in coverage and did an outstanding job against the San Francisco 49ers’ plethora of talent.
Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle’s numbers all took a massive dip in the big game, going from an average of 12.3 combined receptions to just eight.
Their combined receiving yards average dropped from 201.9 yards per game to 86, and they went from averaging 1.2 receiving touchdowns to a grand total of zero.
Steve Spagnuolo proved again to be one of the best defensive coordinators in the game, and the Chiefs wouldn’t even have made it this far if it wasn’t for their championship-caliber defense.
It’s hard to argue with Mahomes being the best player on the team and the main one responsible for the win, but McDuffie is also deserving of all the praise in the world.
