After months of speculation, the Portland Trail Blazers decided that selecting Scoot Henderson with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft was the right way to go for the franchise.
There appears to be another youth movement underway in Portland, with superstar guard Damian Lillard stuck in a potentially tricky situation moving forward, and Henderson is officially the future face of the franchise.
There’s no doubt that Blazers fans are still devoted to Lillard as their undisputed leader, but they’ll have to get used to Henderson, as the team is clearly preparing for him to lead this franchise in the years to come.
During Henderson’s introductory press conference with the team, the 19-year-old described what his slogan is to the media in Portland, via Brenna Greene of KOIN News.

Confidence is something that Henderson does not lack, as he seems like a more outspoken version of Lillard with the way he expresses himself and describes his mentality when it comes to playing the game of basketball.
It’s not all that surprising why the Blazers would bring in a player like Henderson, who seems to be as confident as they come regarding rookie players or even savvy veterans.
The real question now will be whether he and Lillard can coexist in Portland and if that dynamic backcourt duo turns out to be a winning combination moving forward or if the team should seriously consider moving their longtime face of the franchise in a blockbuster trade, as that might be how all this ends up.
