The Seattle Seahawks drew some mockery and criticism last year.
Swapping Russell Wilson for Drew Lock may have seemed crazy at the time, even if it came with multiple draft picks attached.
Geno Smith then outplayed Lock for the starting QB job, silencing the doubters and proving why he was such a highly-touted prospect when he first entered the league years ago.
But even so, and regardless of the fact that he just signed a big contract extension this offseason, some still expected the Seahawks to find him a replacement in this year’s draft.
Instead, they got him one of the prime offensive weapons in this class by adding Ohio State’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Our first WR: The #Seahawks are selecting Ohio State WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba at No. 19. He joins DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett in Seattle.
And Geno Smith gets a weapon, not competition.

Most mock drafts had the Seahawks picking Anthony Richardson out of Florida with either the 5th or 20th pick, which would have obviously put an expiration date on Smith’s tenure in Seattle.
Richardson wasn’t on the board when the Seahawks were on the clock, but they could’ve still gone with Will Levis or Hendon Hooker, as other analysts predicted.
Now, they have the best wideout in this class alongside DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, so they might as well have the fastest, most explosive, most athletic receiving corps in the whole league.
Pete Carroll has repeatedly shown his support for Smith, and the team is doing its best to put him in a position to succeed.
Hopefully, he won’t be just another one-year wonder and will be able to live up to those expectations and make the most of this new elite weapon he got.
