Sean Payton Has Blunt Take About The NFL Preseason

Most people don’t take the NFL preseason seriously; that’s just a fact.

The starters don’t want to get hurt and barely play, if at all, and the fans know most of the guys on the field won’t even be out there when it actually counts.

That’s one of the reasons why Denver Broncos HC Sean Payton doesn’t seem to like it.

Payton recently told Jeff Legwold of ESPN that he doesn’t like to hear in-game interviews or see the players just chilling on the field with their uniforms off after they’re done playing.

New coach, new day — Episode 105:

Broncos’ Sean Payton Monday on what he doesn’t like in preseason:

“I don’t want to see 10 guys on the field, uniforms off after we’re done playing, sunglasses, Gilligan hats on, interviews during the game, that’s what I don’t want to see.’’

Truth be told, the preseason should be all about focusing on minor details, testing a couple of things around, and watching the players who may or may not make the final roster to see what they got.

The league even agreed to shorten the preseason in an attempt to keep players safe, although at the expense of adding another game in the regular season, which obviously makes little to no sense.

The Broncos can’t afford to take a relaxed approach to anything right now, though.

The new ownership has gone to great lengths to make sure they go back to being competitive sooner rather than later, and bringing Payton back from retirement was a major step in that direction.

He’ll now have to turn the culture around after last year’s infamous tenure under Nathaniel Hackett, and while it’s going to be easier said than done in that division, they have the weapons to make a splash out of the AFC West.
