No preseason storyline in the NFL can ever compare to a legitimate quarterback competition, as fans refresh their social media timelines for updates on what happened during practice that day to see if there is any indication of which signal-caller might have the upper hand ahead of Week 1.
Denver Broncos rookie Bo Nix is listed as third on the depth chart, but few are buying that as the reality of the situation as he is working to rip the starting quarterback job away from Jarrett Stidham, and head coach Sean Payton recently provided an update on the No. 12 overall pick and how things are going in camp from his perspective.
“He’s always putting the ball … right in the right spot,” Payton told SiriusXM NFL Radio. “… A lot of the guys in this year’s class, there was adversity. He had it at Auburn … and when they overcome that, they’ve done it once … and then their mind is trained for how to react and how to overcome it again.”

Nix had an impressive debut in his first preseason game, going 15-for-21 with 125 yards and a touchdown while adding 17 rushing yards on three attempts in a win against the Indianapolis Colts.
Payton shared some specifics in this interview that indicate he has been in on Nix for a long time and did more than his due diligence breaking down his college tape and his pro day for Oregon.
Nix started more games in college than any QB in history and clearly has his new NFL head coach behind him, so it appears to be only a matter of time before he takes over as the Broncos starter.
