Sean Payton Seemingly Shades Russell Wilson After Chiefs Loss

The Denver Broncos have struggled defensively all season long.

Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph was reportedly on the hot seat, which is far from a surprise, considering the fact that they did allow 70 points vs. the Miami Dolphins.

The defense was on point vs. the Kansas City Chiefs, keeping the game close and holding them to multiple field goals to keep the game within reach.

The offense, however, was far from its best at Arrowhead Stadium, with the running game often stumbling into a wall and Russell Wilson struggling to hit his receivers in stride.

That’s why, following the game, it seemed like HC Sean Payton threw a little dart at his quarterback, stating that you need to throw the football better to win (via Mike Klis).

Notably, this is just the first time that Payton has taken a public shot at Wilson, and it’s kind of surprising to see that it didn’t happen earlier.

Reports from training camp stated that Payton would look to make an example out of Wilson if he played poorly again this season, as that would help them develop and establish a winning culture within the locker room.

Holding the star player accountable sets the tone for everybody else to step up, but perhaps doing it via the media is not the way to go about it.

Ironically, the Broncos offense has fared much better than their so-called stellar defense this season, and Wilson has played much better thus far — except for last night.

It’ll be interesting to see the dynamics in this locker room for the remainder of the season.
