The Los Angeles Lakers need Anthony Davis to show up every night.
That’s a sentence that could’ve been written every single year since he arrived in Southern California, and it continues to be true.
However, it seems like now that he’s entering his fifth season in Los Angeles and fresh off signing a max contract extension, he’s finally catching strays and being held accountable for his inconsistency.
With that in mind, NFL legend Shannon Sharpe put him on blast for getting mad because of the criticism.
In the latest edition of “First Take,” Sharpe called out Davis because he should put up some hard work on both ends of the floor every single night, not every other game.
“What AD needs to sell me is consistency. … What top 75 Anniversary guy can give his team one rebound in the first half and zero points in the second half and escape criticism?”

He blasted him for getting mad at the critics and then wanting all the praise when he plays well, as the expectation is that a top-75 player making tens of millions plays well.
Davis can put up 30 points one day and 12 the other.
He was day and night in the season opener, dominating for 17 points in the first half and then going scoreless on just six shots in the second half.
You never know what version of him you’re going to get, and it feels like he’s never able to pick up the intensity if he gets off to a slow start to the game.
LeBron James is about to turn 39 years old; he shouldn’t be expected to do the heavy lifting.
Davis is playing for the Lakers and making a lot of money, and that comes with scrutiny, so he’ll just have to deal with it or silence the critics with his play.
