We are now just a few weeks away from finding out which NBA player will be named this season’s MVP.

Although there are several players performing incredibly well, conventional wisdom suggests that the race has come down to Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

On Monday’s “First Take,” Shannon Sharpe threw his support behind Jokic, citing the big man’s “consistency.”

Sharpe believes that Jokic is now in the part of his career where he is just regularly spectacular night after night.

The numbers back that claim up, as Jokic is posting 26.1 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 9 assists per game.

Those numbers are very close to what he delivered during his two MVP seasons.

In fact, they are better in some ways, leading many to think that he is a lock for this year’s trophy.

Winning his third MVP would be a huge accomplishment for the Nuggets superstar, but scoring another Finals victory would be even more important to him.

Jokic and Gilgeous-Alexander may be battling for MVP right now but in several weeks, they could be fighting each other to make it out of the Western Conference.

The Thunder are the best team in the West right now, but just barely.

The Nuggets are right behind them, as are the Minnesota Timberwolves.

That means that this final stretch of games is going to be exciting for a number of reasons: not only will it determine who is the top seed in the West, but it will also give both Jokic and Gilgeous-Alexander a chance to show off even more and earn MVP honors.

Sharpe thinks that Jokic has done enough to earn his third MVP, but everyone expects Gilgeous-Alexander to not go down without a fight.
