LeBron James surprised Los Angeles Lakers fans on Sunday night when he admitted that he doesn’t have much time left to play in the NBA.
But according to Shannon Sharpe, no one should have been shocked by this revelation.
On Monday’s episode of “First Take,” Sharpe said that James is definitely setting up the pieces for life after the league, and that only makes sense because he is now 39 years old and has accomplished so much during his two decades in the league.

Sharpe said he would have been blindsided by this statement if it came from Luka Doncic or Nikola Jokic, but it only makes sense that James would say such a thing.
He is now in his 21st season and is 39 years old.
While he is still doing spectacular things for the Lakers, he is nearing an age where retirement makes sense.
Sharpe said that he can see the foundation that James is building for a post-NBA life.
He recently started a podcast with former player JJ Redick and is more involved in his production company, for example.
This is giving James a taste of what his life after the league will be like.
Just because James said retirement is coming, it doesn’t mean it’s right around the corner.
As mentioned, he still plays amazing basketball and he is healthy too.
Plus, as Sharpe noted, the Lakers are going to work hard in the summer to add a third star to play with James and Anthony Davis, meaning the team could have an even stronger year next season.
But James is definitely making peace with the fact that his career is nearing its conclusion, and Lakers fans should as well.
