During his time in the NBA, Shaquille O’Neal definitely got into a few situations similar to the one Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors is currently in.

And while O’Neal admits that Green shouldn’t have thrown Rudy Gobert into a chokehold a few days ago, he also believes he would have done the same thing.

Speaking with The LA Times, via ClutchPoints, O’Neal said, “I would’ve did the same thing.”

He went on: “I’m not gonna sit here and say he was wrong, he shouldn’t have did it – he probably shouldn’t have did it, but WWSD, what would Shaq do? Shaq would’ve did the same thing.”

O’Neal also said, “I’m from the old school, so you always stick up for your guys.”

This is why he said he won’t be a hypocrite and come down too hard on Green, who O’Neal feels was only trying to support and stand up for his teammate, Klay Thompson.

There have been a lot of opinions about Green over the last few days, with both current and former players stepping up to say what they feel.

While many commentators, fans, and writers feel that Green was unquestionably wrong, some who have played in the league understand why he did what he did.

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter what O’Neal, Steve Kerr, Kendrick Perkins, or anyone else thinks.

All that matters is what the league thinks and they felt that Green’s past behavior meant a five-game suspension was appropriate.

There is no doubt that if he does something like this again in the near future, the suspension will be even more severe.
