About a month ago, on November 16, Shohei Ohtani won his second AL MVP award.

As he was named the winner, he sat in his living room with some special company: a dog.

The dog sat with him during the presentation of the award.

Of course, when he was introduced as a new Los Angeles Dodgers player on Thursday, the media wanted to know more about the dog.

Someone asked the dog’s name, and Shohei helped us unveil one of the mysteries of the offseason.

“Shohei Ohtani has named his dog Dekopin in Japanese, but he also has an American name: Decoy!” FOX Sports: MLB tweeted.

Dekopin is the Japanese name.

However, he is in America now, and to help people with the pronunciation, he decided to name him “Decoy” for US audiences.

“He’s named Dekopin. For people here, I think the pronunciation is difficult,” Ohtani said in Japanese, per the LA Times.

“His original name was Decoy. So when I explain it to people here, I introduce him as Decoy because it’s easier.”

It’s just a poetic name after learning everything that happened with last week’s false report that Ohtani was on his way to Toronto on a plane when he was actually home in Southern California.

Now that we know the name of the MVP (Most Valuable Puppy, that is), we can move on with our lives with a smile on our faces.
