When the Los Angeles Angels signed Shohei Ohtani back in 2018, not many people knew what to expect.
He was a two-way star from Japan but it seemed like having two-way success in the major leagues was far-fetched.
Instead, Ohtani has blown all of his expectations out of the water.
He has been better than anyone could expect and has the records to back it up.
Ohtani is already a one-time league MVP and he is the heavy favorite to win the award this year.
We are not even halfway through the 2023 season and Ohtani has already set another record for himself.
According to Sarah Langs, via MLB, Ohtani has three consecutive seasons with at least 20 home runs and 100+ pitching strikeouts.

We have never seen anyone put up these types of numbers.
It is a true testament to the shape that Ohtani is in allowing him to hit and pitch throughout a full season.
His 20 home runs this season are first in the American League.
Also, his 102 strikeouts are second in the AL.
There is a legitimate shot that Ohtani can win MVP and Cy Young in the same season.
But, the only thing the Angels are focused on is making the playoffs.
That has not happened since they signed Ohtani.
With Ohtani and Mike Trout on the team there is no reason this team should not compete for a World Series.
Every MLB fan wants to see the Angels in the playoffs and hopefully this year it will happen.
