It’s been a bad week for the Los Angeles Lakers.

There were already a ton of questions swirling around the team but matters were made even worse when UConn’s Dan Hurley rejected their offer to be head coach after a very public pursuit by Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka.

Many people said that Hurley humiliated the Lakers, including Skip Bayless.

On Twitter Friday morning, Bayless wrote, “Now the Los Angeles Lakers are leading the NBA in…embarrassment.”

Now the Los Angeles Lakers are leading the NBA in … embarrassment.

LA was certainly embarrassed by the entire Hurley episode.

There was a time when potential head coaches would bend over backward to work for the Lakers.

But times have changed and now they are having a hard time getting the coach they want.

Because it’s the Lakers, everything they do receives a lot of attention.

In fact, it felt like their negotiations with Hurley received more press than the Finals this week.

That only made the embarrassment bigger and more noticeable.

But the team has a chance for redemption and they are hard at work at finding someone else to take on this once-coveted position.

If they play their cards right, the Lakers could earn a head coach who can propel the team into its next chapter.

Most people consider JJ Redick and James Borrego as the frontrunners to land the job.

They know they are the second-best choice behind Hurley but that doesn’t mean they won’t still do a great job.

With the right coach, some roster adjustments, and hard work, the Lakers could have a wonderful 2024–25 season and put this embarrassing incident behind them.
