With the NBA’s first-ever In-Season Tournament officially in the books, with LeBron James leading the Los Angeles Lakers to victory over Tyrese Haliburton’s Indiana Pacers in the championship game in Las Vegas, Nevada, some have started to debate what it means for the legacy of the players involved, namely James.
Of course, with James adding an In-Season Tournament title to his resume, the GOAT debate sparks up again with Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan not able to add these titles to his resume.
Some have even questioned whether Jordan would’ve cared about the In-Season Tournament due to his relentless desire to win NBA titles being what drove him.
Skip Bayless of FOX Sports believes that Jordan would’ve thought the idea of the In-Season Tournament was “cute,” but that wouldn’t stop him from winning each tournament that he competed in during his career had they been implemented back then, via “The Skip Bayless Show.”

With Bayless always doing everything within his power to downplay whatever James does in his career, it’s not all that surprising that he’d have a take like this, which glorifies Jordan once again.
There’s no doubting Jordan’s tenacity and desire to be the best basketball player that he could possibly be, and he accomplished that while still maintaining the reputation as the best we’ve ever seen.
However, comparing players from different eras is virtually impossible these days because it is far from being apples to apples with a ton of new rules and a different style of play.
The GOAT debate will rage on forever because it’s a fun conversation, but it’s generational, and James needs his recognition as much as Jordan gets his.
