Last week, the Dallas Cowboys made an unexpected splash by trading a fourth-round draft pick to the San Francisco 49ers for quarterback Trey Lance.
Lance has barely played in his two NFL seasons thus far, but many feel he still has ample potential moving forward.
The perception is that the 49ers bungled the Lance situation from the start when they traded significant draft capital in order to take him with the No. 3 pick in 2021, but now Dallas has a very intriguing young QB prospect behind Dak Prescott.
Commentator Skip Bayless feels the acquisition of Lance “will go down as one of the greatest steals in Cowboys history,” and he even compared the trade to the infamous Herschel Walker trade that planted the seeds for their great teams of the 1990s.

Lance hasn’t had the time to put it all together in the pros, but his arm strength and ability to extend plays with his legs will give him the ability to pan out moving forward.
In Dallas, Prescott has been a good quarterback for the last seven seasons, but he has a history of not playing up to his potential in big games and during the playoffs.
The speculation is that if Prescott doesn’t get the job done again this season, perhaps the team will look to replace him with Lance.
The Cowboys have an improved roster this season, but quarterback is the most important position in all of team sports, and it is up to Prescott to either live up to his potential or possibly lose his starting job at some point.
