The Boston Celtics had no choice but to give up on Marcus Smart to land Kristaps Porzingis.
Malcolm Brogdon’s health issues made the Los Angeles Clippers walk away from the previous deal they had set in place, so they had to reach out to the Memphis Grizzlies and give up Smart instead.
Trading Smart was a realistic possibility for years now, yet Brad Stevens had chosen to hold onto him because of his elite defense and leadership skills.
That’s why Skip Bayless believes the Celtics actually made a big mistake by letting him go, taking to Twitter to claim that Porzingis has “loser’s intangibles.”
Celtics just made a big mistake, trading for a freakish talent with loser’s intangibles and giving up a leader with winner’s intangibles. Marcus Smart, DPOY, was a big reason Boston made it to G6 of last yr’s Finals and G7 of this yr’s East finals. Trading Smart: dumb.

Smart, on the other hand, is a leader and an outstanding defender with winning intangibles, with Bayless saying that he was one of the main reasons why they were able to go so far in the recent past.
Truth be told, he’s right on point here.
Smart had played a huge role in developing and establishing a winning culture in Boston.
Porzingis, on the other hand, has been on the wrong end of multiple reports about his character, and his body language and attitude have been way off when things haven’t gone his way.
It will also be interesting to see how he embraces a lesser role behind Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum now, considering the fact that he didn’t appreciate playing second sword to Luka Doncic just two years ago.
Smart, on the other hand, will do wonders for the Grizzlies’ derailed young culture.
