For a while, the Green Bay Packers had the chance to upset the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round.

Quarterback Jordan Love and the offense were humming on the ground and through the air, while the defense kept attacking the 49ers and kept them off the scoreboard for portions of the game.

But small mistakes by Green Bay on a few plays allowed San Francisco to stay in the game, culminating in a late touchdown for the 49ers offense and an even later interception for the defense that sealed the win and a trip to the NFC championship game.

Fox Sports analyst Skip Bayless, who’s been a staunch supporter of the Packers recently, posted on social media how frustrating it was to watch Green Bay blow their chances to beat the 49ers.

“[Packers wide receiver Romeo] Doubs couldn’t catch that early TD throw. Pack didn’t get the spot on the 4th down try. Missed 41-yard field goal,” Bayles wrote. “So many chances uncashed. Just makes me sick.”

Those are, unfortunately, mistakes that young teams make – and the Packers are one of the youngest teams in the NFL.

Doubs is a second-year receiver, Love is in his first year as the starter and Anders Carlson is a rookie kicker.

All three made crucial errors that, combined with each other, ended up costing the Packers the win.

But some of what went wrong was also just the 49ers figuring out how to win at the right time after San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy made some incredible throws in the final offensive drive of the game.

The Packers are a team on the rise that just came up short in the biggest game of their season.
