Many people have commented on the Los Angeles Lakers’ recent attempt to sign UConn’s Dan Hurley as their new head coach.

The team tried, and failed, to woo Hurley last week and there was a lot of media attention surrounding that.

On his show, Skip Bayless said that Hurley got the best of the Lakers and embarrassed them in front of the entire NBA world.

“Dan Hurley just used and abused the Los Angeles freaking Lakers,” Bayless said plainly.

It’s not entirely clear why Hurley didn’t take the Lakers up on their offer.

According to reports, the team was willing to pay him $70 million over six years but Hurley scoffed at that deal and is going to stick with UConn.

Perhaps it’s because he didn’t want to move his family across the country, or maybe it’s because he wasn’t excited about the idea of coaching a team that has been having such trouble lately.

Or maybe he just wants to remain with UConn and fight for a third consecutive championship.

No matter the reason, the Lakers’ inability to get Hurley was truly embarrassing for the organization.

There was a time when people would leap at the chance to coach the team and now it looks like they are having problems finding a replacement for Darvin Ham.

The Lakers are trying to put this public fiasco behind them and are moving on to other coaching candidates, including JJ Redick and James Borrego.

They will eventually find a new head coach but this episode with Hurley won’t soon be forgotten.

The Lakers aren’t used to being humiliated like this, which only makes matters worse.
