San Antonio Spurs fans have been waiting all summer to watch Victor Wembanyama officially make his debut for the franchise and they’ll get their wish tonight as they take on the Dallas Mavericks to start their 2023-24 NBA season.
The excitement around the organization is palpable as the Spurs are hoping that Wembanyama is the next great prospect to lead the team into the far future.
Gregg Popovich has been fortunate enough to coach some of the best international players to ever come through the league, though Wembanyama has the upside to be the greatest of the bunch.
The France native was the consensus number-one overall prospect last year and as soon San Antonio won the NBA Draft Lottery, his future was decided.
Despite not having played a regular season game, expectations are sky-high for the rookie given his talents and physical measurements.
However, Skip Bayless is pumping the brakes on Wembanyama until he sees what he’s made of on the court, via “Undisputed.”

Bayless is taking a measured approach when it comes to the big man and it’s probably the correct one as there have been plenty of well-regarded prospects in the past that have flamed out in the league.
Hopefully, that’s not the case with Wembanyama who by all accounts seems to approach the game the right way and seems much more mature for his age.
The NBA has never seen a player quite like Wembanyama before because he has a big man’s body but plays like a guard and he could very well turn the game on its head if he reaches his potential.
