After getting swept by the eventual NBA champion Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals, the Los Angeles Lakers saw their incredible playoff run come to an end, and as the dust settled during the postgame press conference, LeBron James dropped a hint that he would consider retiring this summer.
Although James was coming off his 20th season and recently passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, the four-time NBA champion has repeated time and time that he plans on playing with his son Bronny before walking away from the game.
With Bronny a year away from being eligible to make the jump to the NBA, no one really believed James was considering retirement, but despite that fact, he felt compelled to announce he is returning next season at the ESPYS, which came to no one’s surprise, especially Skip Bayless.
Remember when LeBron brilliantly took the focus off his FOUR 4th quarter failures vs Denver by dropping the “I just might retire” bombshell? Remember his last 2 shots that didn’t even touch the rim? Remember 1-10 from 3 in those 4th qs? Now, HE’S NOT RETIRING! As if he ever was.

James’ announcement rubbed quite a few people the wrong way as few, if any, thought he would retire after still clearly being able to play the game at a high level and wanting to play with his son.
That said, Bayless’ reaction isn’t all that surprising, especially considering he’s made a name for himself as arguably James’ biggest critic among well-known pundits and is constantly attacking the superstar forward for every move he makes, good or bad.
Regardless of the reaction James got for his laughable retirement fiasco, the fact is he’s coming back for another season, and the Lakers will be a force to be reckoned with once again as a result.
