The San Antonio Spurs can’t catch a break right now.

They’ve gone through a lot this season, and they’ve been out of the playoff picture for months now.

On top of that, they might be concerned about one of their best young players.

According to a report by the San Antonio Express-News, Jeremy Sochan might be out for the remainder of the season after suffering an ankle injury.

Of course, he’s expected to be back to full strength for the start of the upcoming campaign, as they just have a handful of games left in the season, and it wouldn’t make sense to risk further injury at this point.

Sochan entered the season as the Spurs de facto point guard, but that experiment didn’t last long.

While his playmaking skills are superior to the average power forward, he’s better suited to serve in a different position.

The ultimate hustler, Sochan takes pride in guarding the opposition’s best scorer and dominating on both ends of the glass, and that’s where he’s at his best.

On the bright side, the Spurs could be looking at another top-five pick in the upcoming edition of the NBA Draft.

Victor Wembanyama has been as good as advertised — if not better — and Sochan should be one of the few untouchables in their rebuilding process.

This team is still a couple of years away from being able to compete for a postseason spot again.

But if Sochan and Wembanyama continue their development, they could be one of the most physical and versatile defensive frontcourts in the game in no time.
