After selecting international rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, the San Antonio Spurs looked like they had another chance to turn the franchise around the same way they did with David Robinson and then Tim Duncan.
Unfortunately for San Antonio, the 2023-24 NBA season was brutal, to say the least, with the Spurs getting some inspired play out of their new face of the franchise, but that did not result in games won on the basketball floor, as they finished with a record of 22-60, which was one of the league’s worst.
Although the Spurs still struggled with Wembanyama on board, the team has high hopes of bouncing back with a vengeance during the upcoming 2024-25 campaign, as they were able to convince veteran point guard Chris Paul to sign with them this offseason.
Despite Paul being near the end of his career, the future Hall of Famer can still provide a boost while giving Wembanyama some guidance.
According to NBA insider Shams Charnaia, the Spurs have agreed to sign guard Malachi Flynn to a one-year deal in an effort to add some depth to the backcourt.

Although Flynn isn’t expected to become a game-changer for the Spurs, they will get some more depth and another scorer on the squad who can shoulder his own when given the opportunity.
A former first-round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Flynn showed what he is capable of when he erupted for 50 points in a game against the Atlanta Hawks last season.
The 26-year-old played in just 24 games for the Detroit Pistons in the 2023-24 campaign but averaged a career-high 8.0 points per game while shooting a career-high 43.0 percent from the floor.
