Victor Wembanyama, the 7-foot-4 rookie phenom from France, lived up to the hype this season, and now the challenge is for the San Antonio Spurs to build a competitive team around him.

There have thus been rumors that they may be looking to trade for Atlanta Hawks star guard Trae Young and that Wembanyama has been interested in teaming up with him.

However, according to Jake Fischer, the Spurs actually have “little interest” in acquiring Young, per NBACentral.

On the surface, Young may seem like an ideal star to pair with the truly special Wembanyama.

Young averaged 25.7 points and 10.8 assists a game this season, and he is the type of player who can single-handedly win games for his team.

He has been an All-Star three times in his six pro seasons, and this year, he went over the 40-point mark four times.

However, Young is a low-efficiency player — he has a career mark of just 43.6 percent from the field — and his career average of 4.2 turnovers a game suggests that he is mistake-prone.

At 6-foot-1 and just 164 pounds, he is also seen as a defensive liability.

He has been rumored to be on the trade market for a while, and whether the Spurs will be interested in him or not, there will surely be at least a few teams that will try to land him.

The Hawks went 36-46 this season and missed the playoffs after Young missed over a month of action late in the schedule because of a finger injury, and perhaps they will be looking to retool.
