The Denver Nuggets have dug the Miami Heat into a hole they’re not likely to come back from.
As a matter of fact, until 2016, no team had ever come back from a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals.
Teams have been in this position 36 times throughout the course of NBA history, and that 1-35 record in this situation is far from encouraging.
Of course, the only team that was able to pull that off was the 2015-16 Cleveland Cavaliers against the 73-9 win Golden State Warriors.

But as impressive as that was, multiple coincidences happened at that time to grant that comeback.
LeBron James was still in his prime; the Cavs had three legit stars, Draymond Green was suspended one game, etc.
And with all due respect to Erik Spoelstra and company, Kyle Lowry is no Kyrie Irving, Bam Adebayo is no Kevin Love, and Jimmy Butler is no prime LeBron James.
The Heat have still been at their best when their backs have been against the wall.
They’ve proven to be one of the most resilient teams in recent NBA history, and they won’t back down or give up without a fight.
They even managed to steal one in Denver despite being down double digits at the end of the third quarter, so maybe it wouldn’t be wise to just count them out already.
But they have no margin for error anymore, and the Nuggets are playing beautiful and flawless basketball on both ends of the floor, so making history never seemed so difficult.
