The Pittsburgh Steelers have gone through a quarterback carousel this season between Kenny Pickett, Mitchell Trubisky, and Mason Rudolph.
Pickett started the year and then injured his ankle, then Trubisky stepped in and played poorly which led to Rudolph taking over this past week.
Rudolph led the Steelers to a 34-11 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 16, and head coach Mike Tomlin decided to stick with Rudolph rather than return to the now-healthy Pickett for Pittsburgh’s Week 17 game against the Seattle Seahawks.

The decision looks like a combination of offensive continuity and better production from Rudolph.
The Steelers offense looked pretty solid this past week as the team finished with it’s highest scoring output of the season and its most offensive yards since Week 12.
Rudolph’s 284 passing yards were also a season-high for Pittsburgh.
So it makes sense why the team wouldn’t want to go back to Pickett despite his health, simply because Pickett wasn’t very good despite earning wins for the team.
Rudolph, meanwhile, is a veteran with a little bit of starting experience under his belt.
The playoffs are still somewhat in reach for the Steelers if they can win their final two games against the Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens.
Those are two tough games, but Rudolph appears to give Pittsburgh the best chance to keep pace in the AFC and maybe sneak into the playoffs if they win and other teams lose.
The Steelers currently sit at No. 9 in the conference with an 8-7 record but no tiebreakers over the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans – the two other teams vying for the final spot.
