The Pittsburgh Steelers clearly needed a big turnaround in their quarterback room this season.
They pulled it off by making a run at Russell Wilson and then trading for Justin Fields.
That opened up the door for them to part ways with Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, and — more notably — even Kenny Pickett.
Fields has drawn solid reviews during training camp and HC Mike Tomlin claimed that even though Wilson is expected to be the starter, there will be an actual competition for the spot.
That’s ‘laughable,’ according to Steelers reporter Mark Madden.
His latest column in Tribe Live dug deep into this competition, and he didn’t mince his words against the former Chicago Bear.
He claimed that the Steelers pretty much replaced a first-round bust with another, stating that as much as Wilson hasn’t been great as of late, he wouldn’t lose games for Pittsburgh:
Russell Wilson knows how to play QB. Justin Fields doesn’t. READ! https://t.co/LL96shTF7M

Madden believes that Fields will never achieve his potential, adding that he only has the potential to stink at this point in his career.
He added that Wilson is proven, polished, and knowledgable, whereas Fields was none of the above.
Clearly, he’s not much of a fan, and he’s definitely not sold on the rave reports from training camp.
Fields will get an opportunity to showcase his skills and give the team a glimpse of how their offense could look like with him behind center, and it seems like he’s going to have to be almost perfect to make Madden even reconsider his stance on this situation.
