The Golden State Warriors raised some eyebrows when they traded young sharpshooter Jordan Poole to acquire future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul earlier this summer.

Some have been skeptical that it was the right move, given that Paul is 38 years of age and is in decline, as well as the fact that he loves to hold onto the ball for large portions of each possession.

The Warriors, on the other hand, are a fast-breaking team that emphasizes ball and player movement in their set offense.

Stephen Curry says he played lots of pickup basketball with Paul during the summer, and as a result, he isn’t concerned about how Paul will fit offensively next to him and his teammates, per Anthony Slater.

Steph Curry played “a lot” of pickup with Chris Paul this summer. He called it “mad fun”. It’s very clear that Curry isn’t worried at all about the offensive fit next to Paul (“seamless”). The question is the defensive end.

Paul is now on his fifth team in eight seasons, and his scoring has declined from 17.6 points a game during the 2019-20 season to 13.9 points a game last year.

He also shot just 44.0 percent from the field last year, which is well below his career mark of 47.2 percent, and in seven playoff games, he hit on only 41.8 percent of his shot attempts.

However, Paul’s ability to run an offense and get the ball to where it needs to be can take lots of pressure off Curry while allowing him to move without the ball more, something he excels at.

The Warriors, who won their fourth NBA championship in eight seasons in 2022, are hoping to get one more ring this season while Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Paul are still spry enough.
