Nothing, not even being the reigning NBA champions has been enough for the Denver Nuggets to get the credit and recognition they so clearly deserve.

Last season, coach Mike Malone complained about the lack of media coverage and praise his team got.

Despite being the No. 1 seed and being up 2-0 against the Los Angeles Lakers, the media talked about how Darvin Ham finally had them where they wanted and what the Lakers needed to do to win the series.

Fast forward to today, and things haven’t changed one bit.

That’s why ESPN pundit Stephen A. Smith took some time to acknowledge the fact that he had ‘forgotten’ about them, apologizing for it on TV (via Awful Announcing).

“Then you see what happens last night. And you’re like, ‘Well damn.’

Denver: ‘You must have forgot about us.’ Yes, I did. My apologies.

Minnesota: I might have blew ’em up a little bit too much. We’ll see.” https://t.co/PnxTPG5lQ6 pic.twitter.com/e8C13nvqOx

Smith thinks he may have hyped the Minnesota Timberwolves a little too much after Game 2 of their playoff series, once again overlooking the defending NBA champions.

Of course, small-market teams don’t get that much recognition, and Nikola Jokic isn’t the most marketable superstar in the league; he doesn’t talk that much, and he just cares about basketball.

Even so, this team won the Larry O’Brien trophy less than 12 months ago for a reason, and it seems like people will simply never learn their lesson about them.

The Nuggets are right back in this series.

It won’t be easy, but they still have a chance to turn things around and continue their pursuit of back-to-back championships.

Hopefully, even if that’s not the case and they lose, they’ll get the credit they’ve earned once and for all.
