Jerry Jones has turned the Dallas Cowboys into the most valuable franchise in all of sports.
He’s also helped the NFL maximize it’s value, earning lucrative deals and helping expand it’s brand.
Truth be told, the game of football is somewhat indebted to him.
However, when it comes to finding success as GM, it’s been — literally — decades since that was the case.
That’s why Stephen A. Smith took offense at his comments about him being a great general manager.
Talking on First Take, the ESPN star stated that Jones has had more head coaches than playoff wins in the last 28 years.
“Since 1996, he’s had seven head coaches. … That’s more coaches than playoff victories in the last 28 years. … How the hell are you a great GM and you got more head coaches than playoff victories?”

He called him out for the chokehold he’s had on the franchise, making every decision, whether it’s minor or major.
Simply put, there’s no way any general manager would’ve lasted that long anywhere else with that track record of success.
If he weren’t the Cowboys’ owner, he would’ve been fired decades ago.
Granted, he did lead the team to multiple Super Bowls earlier in his tenure, but the game of football has changed a lot over the past 20-plus years.
Jones is great at doing business, and perhaps he would’ve been even better as the league’s Commissioner.
As for being a great general manager of a professional football team, one doesn’t have to look very far to see the results.
