The Russell Wilson of the last few seasons has been a little different from the nine-time Pro-Bowler and Super Bowl champion that fans remember in Seattle.

Now a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, which is his third team in the last four years, Wilson is currently in a quarterback battle with former first-round quarterback Justin Fields.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith recently made a point on First Take to let Wilson know that his career could be on the line this year.

“You’re fighting for your career. Act like it, Russell Wilson,” Smith exclaimed.

Wilson has accomplished everything that every young quarterback dreams about, aside from being named an MVP.

However, he has taken a step down with his play in the last few seasons.

After a magical decade in Seattle, the former Wisconsin Badger guided the Denver Broncos to a poor record of 11-19 in his two seasons there before being released and coming to Pittsburgh.

He has not eclipsed 4,000 yards since 2020 and hasn’t thrown for over 30 touchdowns since 2019.

The 35-year-old was once one of the best quarterbacks of this era, but he is now battling for his NFL livelihood as he is on a one-year deal and battling with a quarterback in Justin Fields who has a career record of just 10-28 as a starter.

For Wilson to regain some of his magic, he is going to have to be healthy and come ready to play each week.

That is if he can win the starting job at the end of the preseason.
