The Phoenix Suns were just swept out of the opening round of the NBA playoffs, a disappointing and somewhat shocking conclusion to the season.
But Suns owner Mat Ishbia pushed back on calls for change, stating that the team’s starting five will remain intact in the new season and that not much will be changing.
Stephen A. Smith was perplexed by Ishbia’s comments and stated his confusion on Thursday’s “First Take.”
He said that the timing of Ishbia’s statement was bad because the team has just been swept and fans are demanding some adjustments.

Ishbia still clearly believes in the team that he has.
On paper, they’re one of the greatest squads in the league and have the incredible big three of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal.
There are several other supporting stars on the roster too, adding to the team’s power.
But all of that didn’t translate into the sort of season the Suns wanted.
There were many reasons for their failings: injuries stacked up, the Western Conference was very tough, and the team lacks a true point guard.
No matter the reason, the Suns didn’t shine brightly in 2023–24.
But despite that, things aren’t going to change.
Will Ishbia still be singing that tune in a few months when the offseason offers free agents and new players?
How committed will he be to this version of the team in the summer when other teams are making changes and getting stronger?
Right now, Ishbia says he is sticking with the Suns as they are and isn’t interested in tweaking things but the temptations of the summer could change his mind.
