The Los Angeles Lakers were four wins away from making it to the NBA Finals last season.
Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets were just too much to handle, and they couldn’t even get one win from them.
The Nuggets got slightly worse, and the Lakers got kind of better in the offseason, so one could argue the gap between them isn’t that wide anymore.
Nonetheless, Stephen A. Smith still doesn’t believe the Lakers can get the job done, and that’s all because of Anthony Davis.
In his recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s ‘Club Shay Shay,’ Smith doubled down on his constant criticism of Davis, stating that he questions his availability.

Smith stated that it’s shameful to see that LeBron James is still the best player on the Lakers when he doesn’t necessarily want to be that guy, and wondered how Davis doesn’t take it personally to be on his same level.
The controversial pundit reckons that Davis is one of the most talented players on Earth, but he’s not consistent offensively, and that’s been the biggest issue for the Lakers since he arrived in Southern California.
Smith challenged Davis to draw some motivation from LeBron James, use his trainers, and whatnot, to try and get — and stay — in shape, as his inconsistency and injury-proneness might be due to a lack of preparation.
This isn’t the first time that Smith has called out Davis for failing to step up and allow LeBron to embrace a different role at this point in his career, and it definitely won’t be the last.
