According to recent reports, the Los Angeles Lakers are meeting with UConn’s Dan Hurley on Friday in hopes of offering him the head coach position.

Many Lakers fans are excited to see what Hurley could do for the team, especially because he helped his UConn team win back-to-back championships.

On Friday’s “First Take,” Stephen A. Smith praised Hurley and his abilities but added, “The job that he would come there and do for the Los Angeles Lakers, I believe Darvin Ham would’ve done that job.”

“[Dan] Hurley I think would do a good job. … But, the job that he would come there and do for the Los Angeles Lakers, I believe Darvin Ham would’ve done that job.”

Smith still believes that Darvin Ham wasn’t treated well by the Lakers after he did so much for the team.

At the end of his first season coaching the Lakers, he brought them all the way to the Western Conference Finals before they were taken down by the Denver Nuggets.

It was those same Nuggets that took them out of the running this season, beating them in the first round of the playoffs.

Smith noted that only one team beat the Lakers during the playoffs under Ham’s leadership, which says something about his skills.

Regardless of what Smith thinks, the Lakers have made up their mind to say goodbye to Ham and move the team in a new direction.

Not only were they unhappy with the results that Ham had, but they also wanted a leader who could be with the team for years, perhaps even decades.

The Lakers have gone through a plethora of coaches over the last several years, and they are looking to change that pattern and hand the keys to someone who is reliable and ready to work with the team, its young talent, and its front office for many years to come.
