Multiple teams are currently battling for the top spot in the Western Conference and the competition is fierce.
The Los Angeles Clippers are surging and no one is questioning the greatness of the reigning champion Denver Nuggets.
But sitting above everyone else are the Oklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves, who both hold a record of 31-13.
Speaking on First Take, Stephen A. Smith said that he is enjoying a blossoming rivalry between the Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards.

These stars are having incredible seasons that could justify an MVP trophy.
Gilgeous-Alexander is recording 31.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game, on a strong field goal percentage of 54.6%.
Meanwhile, Edwards is putting up 25.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.2 assists.
Both players are arguably having their best seasons yet and their respective teams are thriving for the first time in years.
There is a very good chance that both reach the playoffs and also a high probability that they go all the way to the Western Conference Finals.
This is why Smith is so excited to see these two players butt heads and battle for supremacy.
Of course, Gilgeous-Alexander and Edwards need strong teams around them to win a ton of games.
In the end, the player who has the better roster surrounding them will be the one who goes the furthest.
Many fans are debating which team has stronger supporting stars and that is a conversation that will continue.
There are many intriguing rivalries across the NBA but Smith’s statement about Gilgeous-Alexander and Edwards proves that these two players could be the future of the league.
