The 2024 Olympics are officially in the books, with Team USA being as advertised during the tournament, as head coach Steve Kerr and his star-studded squad were able to overcome close calls against Nikola Jokic’s Serbian team and France, which showcased Victor Wembanyama to win the gold medal.
Once it was official that Team USA would be heading back to the United States with a gold medal, an MVP of the tournament was selected, and it didn’t come as much of a surprise that Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James was given the honor for what he did for the Americans.
However, even though James was dominant throughout the beginning of the tournament, it was Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Stephen Curry who led the team to victory in its final two games against Serbia and France with an incredible shooting display.
Curry put the team on his back in those final two games to avoid elimination and showed the world that he’s the best shooter of all time.
The Warriors superstar’s performance was so impressive that he made a late case for the MVP, and some, like Stephen A. Smith of ESPN, believe he should’ve come home with the award via ClutchPoints.
“I thought Steph Curry deserved the MVP… Not because LeBron [James] wasn’t great, because he was. But when you steal pivotal moments like that to secure gold in two thrillers, Serbia & then France, you deserve the MVP,” Smith said.

Smith does have a point, as Curry definitely outshined James when the games were on the line, and the team needed someone on the squad to step up and lead them to victory.
It’s a shame he didn’t get more recognition for his efforts by being named the MVP, but he put the world on notice that he’s still one of the greatest basketball players on the planet.
