The Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets kicked off the Western Conference semifinals with Game 1 and it was a battle between the two title contenders.
The defending champions looked to be in control in the first half as they controlled the pace and kept the Timberwolves in check.
However, things flipped in the second half as Anthony Edwards simply took over the game with a dazzling array of shotmaking.
Edwards, who has been quickly establishing himself as the next face of the NBA, dropped 43 points in Minnesota’s Game 1 win, cementing his status as arguably the best player in the series.
It was apparent over the summer during his time with Team USA that Edwards was poised to make a leap, but not many people could have seen his meteoric rise happen so soon.
Stephen A. Smith was one of the numerous people impressed with Edwards’ performance, which is why he’s picking the Timberwolves to win the series against the Nuggets, via NBA on ESPN.
“I’ve seen enough. …[Anthony Edwards] is the best two-way guard in the NBA,” Smith said.

It isn’t hyperbole to call Edwards the best shooting guard in the league because he’s clearly taken his matchups personally on the floor.
Not only does Edwards have every shot in the book, but he’s also a menace defensively who’s willing to guard opposing teams’ best perimeter players.
The young superstar’s coming out party has been electric to watch and if he continues to play this well there’s no reason to doubt that Minnesota can win it all this year.
