Over the last few days, a flurry of rumors about LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have sprung up throughout the NBA world.

Some stories say that James is unhappy with the team, while others claim that the team could possibly trade the 39-year-old legend.

On Monday’s “First Take,” Stephen A. Smith made a case for James moving to the New York Knicks, directly speaking to agent Rich Paul.

“If he wants a better shot at a championship, I would say it is something he strongly should consider,” Smith said about James saying goodbye to the Lakers.

Smith went on: “I’m loving what I’m seeing here [with the Knicks]…and the only thing that’s missing from the New York Knicks right now is a star, a superstar.”

No one will deny that the Knicks look like a better team than the Lakers, at least right now.

But that doesn’t mean James will pack his bags and move to the East Coast.

For starters, he and his family have settled down in southern California and James might not want to uproot them.

Secondly, the Knicks would have to give up a lot to get James, including possibly Julius Randle and other top names on the roster.

Finally, the Lakers could make some moves this week to appease James and give him a better roster to play with.

On Monday morning, Brian Windhorst said that James is hoping the Lakers improve the team by Thursday’s trade deadline.

If they do, he will likely stick around, at least for a while.

Of course, James can become an unrestricted free agent if he opts out of his player option for next season.
