The only reason the Golden State Warriors let Klay Thompson walk away is because they still have faith in this team.
Ironically, that meant they felt like they couldn’t commit more money to a player who might not be able to help them go back to the mountaintop at this point in his career.
Needless to say, they only feel that way because Stephen Curry is still one of the best players on Earth, and having him there gives them a perennial chance to win another championship.
Notably, Curry feels the same way.
When asked about the current picture and how he sees his team, he told Vincent Goodwill that as much as he doesn’t make the decisions, he appreciates the way the Warriors always keep him informed of what’s going on, adding that they make these moves because they feel they’re what they need to do to be competitive (via Yahoo Sports).

Curry claimed that his approach to the game wouldn’t change regardless of who was on the team, as all he wants to do is win.
He knows it’s hard to win in the NBA and feels blessed for everything he’s accomplished thus far, but he claimed that there would be no contentment in just cashing checks to play; he wants to win again.
That’s the kind of competitor Stephen Curry is.
He doesn’t have anything left to prove in his career at this point, but if he’s not playing for the big prize, he might not even play at all.
