The Sacramento Kings are probably the biggest feel-good story in the NBA this season.
They currently hold a 45-29 record, which puts them in third place in the Western Conference, and they’re on the verge of clinching a playoff spot for the first time since 2006.
As a result, Kings head coach Mike Brown has to be the frontrunner for the Coach of the Year award.
He used to be an assistant on Steve Kerr’s staff with the Golden State Warriors, and Kerr said on Sunday that he and others in the organization are very happy for him.
“We all love [Mike Brown], and we’re all thrilled for him.”

Brown has certainly paid his dues around the NBA over the years.
After serving as an assistant coach for three teams in the late 1990s and early 2000s, he became the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2005, which gave him the opportunity to coach a young LeBron James.
After he left Cleveland in 2010, he was hired by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2011 after Phil Jackson retired, making him the rare coach who got to work with both James and Kobe Bryant.
His Lakers tenure was rather lackluster, and after being fired by them and returning to Cleveland for one season, he joined Kerr in Golden State for the 2016-17 campaign, and in that capacity, he won back-to-back NBA championships.
Brown appears to have grown as a head coach, especially when it comes to his offensive strategy, and the way his Kings play is evidence.
They lead the league in scoring at 121.1 points a game, making them just one of a handful of teams that have ever averaged at least 120 points a game, and they have managed to do so with a deep roster that includes two All-Stars in guard De’Aaron Fox and big man Domantas Sabonis.
Look for Brown’s squad to be a tough out come playoff time, despite its lack of postseason experience.
